Euzkeraz Bi was my first solo album. I had twice previously attempted to make an album, however, on both occasions I had not been satisfied with the results. Here things finally came together and I pasted it to C.D. I named it Euzkeraz Bi or    second attempt in the Basque language. On this album I put music to the lyrics of various Basque poets of my liking.  The tracks that stand out in my mind however are: “Arrantzaleari” not only because of its lyrics but also because my   father, as well as my ancestors who were all seafarers. The track “Itxas zabaletik” also has a particular place in my heart because its lyrics were written by my childhood friend Alberto Gojenola – I just added the melody. He was 18 and I, 17.

I guess the title helps to identify the reason of its name. Another notable mention would be the song “North of the Wind”, a reference to the present Scottish separatist dilemma, an issue that I could identify during the late eighties. “Was wilst du kind” with a select few German words in it, was a dedication to Hanni Lewandowsky and “The Hunter” was an ode to my brother Xabier. Keith Chilvers plays lead guitar in a couple of numbers.

This album was encouraged by Keith Chilvers, a great guitar player and friend of mine. We both agreed it should have a loose feeling rather than following strictly to the metronome. There are tunes that go back in time to the eighties, such as “Save your tears now” and others recently written such as “Hurt Sister”.

Even though there are already nearly twenty tunes, mostly instrumentals, I have not finished it yet! This is my latest project and the title comes with my fascination about Lisa’s colourful trees. We both deliver the post and in the spirit of the postal service I named one of the songs “Patrick first class”.
